Q.

Obese Toddler

My baby is 19 month boy, weighs 23kg and is almost a metre tall. His birth weight was 4.05kg. He has had no health problems so far. His daily diet consists on 1 wheatbix, 1/2 cup yoghurt, noodles, an apple and lots of juice and rooibos tea. But I am worried about his growth rate and weight. He is otherwise a healthy and energetic child. He has been to a doctor and he pronounced good health.

Although your little boy was a very big baby at birth his present weight is very much in excess of the normal. He is far above the 97th percentile for his weight. He does not appear to be eating excessively, in fact his diet is pretty normal.I would like him to be checked again by his paediatrcian and fully investigated to make sure that all is well here.
