I do not know why children sometimes have periods where they eat less, but the main observation is that your child is otherwise healthy. As long as your child is playful (as always), gaining weight and thriving, then I will not be too concerned about the amount that he eats. If there are any other persistent symptoms then it will require evaluation. I do not know of any safe appetite stimulant. The most important thing is not to give your child any unhealthy snacks e.g. chips or sweets in between meals.
