Hi Doc, 2 questions please, - my 6mnths old son has a wheezy chest until he coughs, I have tried mucospect and ruteri drops for 10 days now but no improvement.
- I have also started him on rice cereal but he now drinks only about 300 to 400ml of his formula. I am concerned that he will be constipated. I am now scared that if I introduce vegetables to his diet, his milk consumption will be even less. Please advice

If your baby has a wheezy chest the most likely cause is a viral infection especially by the RS virus causing a chest condition called bronchiolitis. With bronchiolitis there is inflammation and swelling of the lining mucous membrane of the small airways of the baby's lungs which causes wheezing. This illness takes at least 3 weeks to clear up. You are treating your baby correctly. As long as he can feed normally and sleep well he should recover by himself. I see on reading further through your question that in fact he is not feeding all that well at the moment. This may be because of his present wheezing illness and should improve when he is better.Keep him on the rice cereal only until he is better and then you can expand his diet [see]
