No Sleep

Good afternoon

I have a LO almost 6 months old. Since birth (at 37 weeks) he had a blocked nose and is almost on medication every day to ease the breathing. The problem is that he sleeps very poorly. He has his bath at 5 and have his dinner at 5:30 and then he is awake untill about 9 when we eventually get him to sleep. He then wakes up about 11o'clock and then 1 o'clock and after 2 almost every hour. He has a vew sips of milk and goes back to sleep. He is on NAN (since birth) and we have tried out different milk types as well, but nothing seems to help. I have heard that antihistamien (sp) can help to get him in more of a routine. Is this true and what other suggestions do you have to assist as I am working and getting up every hour and working is really getting to me now.

Thank you

The basic problem here that is causing your baby's sleep problems is his blocked nose. Babies simply have to have an open nose to be able to sleep soundly. You need to find out what is causing him to have such a very blocked nose at his age.He may have very enlarged adenoids. The best approach would be for him to be seen by an ENT specialist so that a proper diagnosis can be made and the correct treatment advised.

I feel your pain. Since 4 months my daughter now 8 months is ill all the time, chest, blocked nose, fever, actualyl since she started creche. I also work full day and get no sleep at all. Also have a 3 year old! She has supper at 6, bath at 7 and asleep by 7:30-8, only to wake again at 11,2am and then from 2am, every hour till I get up at 5. It's tough. But I think it's all due to being ill. They can't sleep if their nose is blocked and even if you unblock it it's get blocked again in only a few hrs. If they have chest issues, the coughing wakes them and fever just makes you feel all yucky and achey. So it all boils down to keeping them healthy if you can I guess. And when they are healthy for 1 or 2 weeks their body clocks are set to wake at certain times due to being ill.
But just to let you know that you are not the only one and I know howit goes. Thinking of you
