Q.

New baby face swelling

I gave birth to a baby boy yesterday (02 May 2011). I was in labour for 24 hours then taken for an emergency caesar. His forehead and eyes are swelling, what could be the problem Dr. Instead of getting better, its getting worse. Please advise, this is suppose to be the happiest time of my life.

Your baby's facial swelling is probably due to your prolonged labour. He may have been what is termed a 'face presentation' and that is why he needed to be born by caesarean section.This kind of swelling in newborn babies is common and not at all harmful and should soon disappear.
