Q.

Nasal congestion not clearing

My 17 month old started daycare a month ago and has caught two cold viruses, one after the other. He had a very high fever (up to 40.2) for 3 days last weekend which I managed to keep down with Ponstel and Panado and by sponging him down. I took him out of daycare for a week to give his immune system a chance to recover.
He is still very congested and I have been using a bulb syringe and saline spray (which doesn't really help at all). I use Illiadin nose spray at night to help him breathe as he can't sleep well if his nose is stuffy. He also has a post nasal drip and coughs himself awake all the time, which makes for a very cranky baby and parents!
I have tried Demazin, cough suppressants and Karvol for nighttime and nothing works like the Iliadin nose spray, but the only problem is I can't use it for more than 5 days. Can I use something like Sinumax or Rinex instead? I use the saline during the day but it just doesn't work to open his nose and he really needs to get some sleep at night.
Please advise...

You are battling with the effects of recurrent viral infections causing colds and a blocked nose in your child. The background problem is the fact that he is at a daycare.
I am not happy to continue using Iliadin drops for prolonged periods and the usual oral decongestants such as Rinex do not help for long in ths age group. The best and safest treatment is Salex drops 3 times a day every day until he clears.
