Q.

Nail biting

My 5 year old son recently started biting his nails while sleeping . He previously used to grind his teeth. Friends are telling me this is because of a vitamin defieciency, and that i should dip nis nails in any bitter tasting liqued before bedtime to discourage this habit. He arealdy takes a multi vitamin daily. Do i need to consult a doctor?

This is a very common habit and it is best not to make too much of a fuss about it as it will only prolong the problem. It is not due to a vitamin deficiency. Painting his nails with a bitter liquid may help and it is worth trying. In most cases children stop the habit by themselves.
