Q.

nagging cough

Hi Doc,

My LO has had two colds this winter (and two anti-biotics) and after each one has been left with a nagging cough even after the symptoms have gone. His nose is ever so slightly runny - I maybe have to wipe it once or twice a day; but this cough is just persistent and really bothers him at night when he is trying to sleep.

I have tried cough syrup but it doesn;t really help. What do you suggest I do? Is it advisable to continue with his nose spray (Flixonase) and Zyrtec?

This sounds like a problem called tracheitis which is a common problem after a recent viral repiratory infection. It is very difficult to treat and sometimes it is necessary to use a short course of cortisone. First try Aterax Syrup 5ml at night for a week and see if this helps. If it does not it may be be necessary to consult his paediatrician again.
