my baby has a flat head

At the age of 2 months i noticed my child had a flat head, i thought it would change, but not, now he is 9 months old and i have spoken to his dr about it but he thinks it will reshape. I am a bit concerned more especially cos he is a boy he would not grow his hair to hide the irregular shape of his head. Please help me as this is really worrying me. a friend of mine' s 2 yr old has a flat head and it has not reshaped as yet. please i dont wanna regret at a later stage i am prepared to go for the second opinion. please advice.

Your child's head shape is very common now that mothers are advised to let their babies sleep on their backs. The flat head shape is known as Plagiocephaly. It is important to let your baby sleep on onside or the other now, change his position when you put him to bed, one time on the one side, the next on the other side, Also give him plenty of time on his tummy when he is awake. In the great majority of cases the shape of the head comes back to normal by itself. If this does not happen by 12 to 15 months then ask your doctor about his head shape again. In a very few cases a special helmet is used for a short time to assist the baby's head to re-shape to the normal.
