Mollusca Contagiosa ( Skin condition)

Hi there, My son was diagnosed to have the Mollusca Contagiosa virus, as I understand. it is creating little mouls on his skin ( Stomach, back, genetals). I was told this is not curable, is it true? Also that it is highly contageous, how contageous? I have 3 other children and they obviously play together all the time, does this mean the others will also get the condition?

This condition is common and it is contagious (usually by sharing towels etc.), but it is fairly harmless. It is a virus infection that ccreates very unsightly skin lesions that usually persist for anything from 12-24 months, whereafter it disappears spontaneously. It frequently affects one child after the other within a family. We are only concerned if thse lesions become infected or if it involves the area surrounding the eyes.

Hi there. It is not curable but treatable. My son was diagnosed a few months ago and has since had one episode after that. All you need to do is change the bedding etc weekly, wash it with a bit of bleach and vacuum the bed and pillow. Try fumigating your house and sterilising everything (mission I know) but it does work. It can be very contagious but fortunately it is only passed on through hand contact. Ensure that your child is covered up during this time and you should have no problems. Also NO sharing of towels, soap, clothes, sponges etc. Try putting a bit of dettol in the bath too. You do special cream and soap (from the chemist) which you need to use. I used about 2 bars of soap and now just keep one handy if I need to ever use it again.
Hope this helps.
