MMR - then she gets mumps?

Hello Paed, thank u for all the help u give parents here, your expertise and knowledge is much appreciated.

My child has missed not one vac and got all the boosters too. Now at age six she has a case of mumps. I don' t get it, are vacs just a ' hopeful'  measure that one will not get ill, but no guarantee?

Secondly, I have her on Ibumol for the discomfort as the doc said there is no treatment for mumps per se. Is Ibumol ok or should I give her stopayne maybe?

Sorry last one - we have a baby ' welcome'  shower this weekend for my sister. The child is two weeks old. Should my child and I stay away? At the house it will be the baby and her siblings, aged 6, 8 and 9. Should we not go to the welcome shower at all. Khanyi first started complaning of mumps discomfort some days ago..I' d say she' s on day 4 or 5 of pain and day 3 of noticeable swelling. Is it too close a call for us to go to the welcome on Saturday or should Khanyi just not go anywhere near the baby?

Usually the MMR is very effective in preventing mumps and it is most unusual for a child to get mumps who has been given the MMR.So much so that one must be sure that the diagnosis is correct. If she indeed has mumps and has pain then you should use Panado for the pain.Neither you nor your daughter should attend the baby shower this weekend.
