Q.

Meningitis

Please could you advise me. My child (age 3 and a half) had a high fever last night with a headache and a sore neck. She also seemes sensitive to light when we turned on the bedroom lamp. She has no rash and is not throwing up and even seems a bit better now with no fever. I am very worried about meningitis but we took her to our normal GP and he said that it is not mumps or meningitis (even though he did no blood tests) and that he cannot find anything wrong with her. Is it possible to rule our meningitis so easily? Please if you could let me know or advise me as to whether I should take her for a second opinion. Thanks. Melinda

This could well be meningitis especially the viral form-please get a second opinion.

Hi Melinda,

Go to this website: www DOT meningitis DOT org

Check the toddler symptoms - the site is very user-friendly - it is for the Meningitis Research Foundation.

Hope all is well - and if in doubt, rather be over-cautious then be sorry I say. Take your child to a pediatrician.

Regards,
Mary
