Meal Supplements?

Hi Dr.
Please can you give me some advise. I took my baby 12 and a half months to the clinic today for his 12 month vaccines (he was sick over his birthday so i had to wait two weeks). He has been a very picky eater lately and really fusses over meals and prefers to snack and pick on little finger foods which I know is very common for babies this age. He won' t tolerate porridge or mashed foods. At his one year check up my paed assured me that all was well and that I must not worry about his weight as it is normal for weight gain to slow down from now. he advised that I put my baby on a multi vitamin (Vidaylin with iron) as his iron levels may be low which he assured is common in this age group. I am very happy with my baby and feel he is healthy, happy and a normal toddler. I agree with my paed that he is perfect and a picture of health and he definately does not look thin or sickly in any way. He is extremely active, not walking yet but all over the place and I think this is why he is not gaining too much because whatever is going in is being used up in his play. At the clinic today, his weight has still not increased and the sister advised that I should give him meal replacement (Pediasure) and change his formula to one that fulls him up more from S26 to Lactogen as he is waking up hungry at night. He has not needed night feeds since he was three months but in the last month he wants a bottle at night and it is a habit I don' t want to start.
I am happy to give him the supplement until he is eating nicely but I am not happy about changing formula' s. I don' t want to teach him that milk is to fill him up, now that he is a year I feel he needs to know that meals and snacks are to satisfy hunger.
What would your opinion be on changing formula?
Also, can I give him the Pediasure Meal Supp after dinner in place of his bed time bottle. Will it be as filling as a bottle or is more of a nutrient supplement? I have not spoken to my paed about supplements so I would really like your opinion on these?
My little boy weighs 10Kgs (and has weighed this since 10 months) and he is 78cm (he has grown a cm in the last two months). My husband is tall and slim so I think it is in the genes.
Thank you for all your advise.

You are correct, your baby son's weight is fine, just slightly below average, but he is extremely tall. His length is in the top 10% for his age group. He does not need any supplements. He is almost certainly following a family characteristic for his weight and height.Do not change to another formula at this stage. As he is over a year now he can start on regular full cream milk.
