Lumps in neck

My 8 year old has two lumps in her neck. Just below the hairline - left and right. She says it is sore if I press hard. These lumps apparently appeared about a week ago. The past 3 days she was ill with stomach cramps, threw up X2, and had a little fever. But all is gone now. She is back to her old self again (For your eldest daughter and her friend was also sick with stomach cramps and they threw up - think they got the bug from school). Just also - on Saturday I found a tick on her head. We removed it (head intact) and immediately put on some antibiotic ointment. Now 2 days after the place looks much better and healing well with no swelling or black spots near it. I will look out for fever, headache etc. For how many days must I keep her under my watchful eye. Thank You

This is an excellent question and you have set out all the important information. The two lumps you mention are almost certainly enlarged lymph glands. They have become enlarged due to the tick bite your daughter had on her head.Although she does not have any signs of tick bite fever at present you must be on the look out for warning signs including fever, severe headache and a pinkish rash which starts on the limbs and then spreads to the body. The rash can even occur on the soles of the feet.It is a good sign that the actual bite site on your daughter's head does not have a black scab as this is often a warning sign that tick bite fever is likely.

If I press on the lumps now - it isnt sore. So I do not know if it was sore in the beginning and if she just said so.
Do you have lhumps (kliere) behind your neck?
