Q.

low muscle tone inchildren

My son is 5 turnig 6 in december,recieving occupational therapy at the moment, muscle toneproblems the concern born at 34 weeks, want him to be school ready s this is the only area that lacks, emotionaly, intelectualy school ready, expample, pencil clutch,juming on 1 eg, etc. what can I ddo to help him on this level, as he gets therapy for that, but meaning t home. Thank you

This is very common in boys at this age. Boys are slower than girls to mature. He sounds as he is going through the clumsy stage which little boys often do. Get him to colour in and keep within the lines as often as he wants to do this activity. OT will also help. This problem always disappears when they are 7 years old or there about.

Give him lots of love, and positive feedback about all attempts made. Play outside, and ruff and tumble activities lots Don't over do the pen and paper work, but give lots of positive feedback. Important that he does not think their is something wrong with him. Good luck he will be fine.
