Q.

Lame Neck

Hi Doc
I have a 2 month old baby boy , when i pick him up , he;s neck always seems lame , like when he sits up he;s neck is ok , but if you move him to quickly he's head just fall forward . He turns he;s head around when you lay him on his stomach and when you touch he's arms he just wants to get up , he's necks seems strong when he wants to do that . Should i be worried ar look out for any kind of difficulties that he might have in that regard .
thank you

Babies at this age does not have proper head control and what you describe is perfectly normal for a baby of this age. The head control should improve steadily and be a lot better by 3-4 months.

I had a very lazy baby concerning his neck muscles. I was told by the peaditrician to place him on his stomach at least 8 times a day for a few seconds/minutes (until you can see he can REALLY not keep his head up anymore).
These excercises helped alot

I was told to pull baby up by the hands when laying on back this strenghtens muscles do this about 4/5 times a day should not be worried if you lift baby and hold him in the air as long as his neck is in the middle should be ok hope this helps
