Iron defficiancy anemia

Hi docter my child is 2years old and has been getting sick a lot of times i mean almost every second week she had a ear infection or something and the doctor just kept on giving her antibiotics so i took her to a specialist in a nother city where she was diagnosed with iron defficiancy anemia she has been put on an iron supplement syrup which did not work so now she is on the injection (ferris) but it seems she is still not responding at one stage her iron count dropped from 13 to 8 in 8 weeks time so the doctor began testing her she did an occult stool sample test (negative) she did a meckell scan (negative) she was tested for celiac disease (negative) and currently we are waiting for results for a hemoglubin electrophoresis test

My child is eating everything that we are eating she eats her meats and vegetables she is still drinking formula milk which has iron (nido) and eating porridge with loads of vitamins(future life) and i am giving her a vitamin supplement syrup every morning (crecheguard) but yet she still gets sick

I was wondering if you have some advice

You have given a very clear description of your little daughter's aneamia. As you can see she had a very unexpected response when given both forms of iron.In fact her haemoglobin levels droped. Normally her haemoglobin would have improved very rapidly. Her doctor has ruled out several of the important conditions that may explain why this has happened. All of the tests done so far have been negative.A haemoglobin electrophoresis should be done. She may well have an inherited form of anaemia. It would be best for your daughter to be seen by a paediatric haematologist so that a proper diagnosis can be made.
