Q.

Infant feeding

Good day

I have a 5 week old baby boy (born at 37 weeks). He breastfed for the 1st 2 days and then we started giving him NAN. He just did not keep it in and I took him to the doctor as he was vomitting all the time. She told me to use Infacare AR, but I cannot find it anywere, so we started using NAN AR. According to the feeding schedule he is suppose to drink 100ml per feed, but we only mannage to get him to drink 50 ml at a time, and we cannot keep the milk for a later feed. The problem is that it seems he is getting "cramps" after each feed as he is pulling his legs up and screems ect. I give him Telament, but not sure how long I can give this to him. Is it save to give this to him after each feed (does not really seem to help). What do you suggest? He has gained 1.3 kg's since birth so he is definately not hungry, but the screeming and cramping worries me as it takes me about an hour to calm him down and get him to fall asleep again after each feed. This is stressing me and I am sure he can feel this. He is on a 3 hours feeding schedule, and after claming him and getting him to sleep it is almost feeding time again. Please help as nobody is getting any sleep because of this and tention is running very high at this stage.

Thank you

Your baby seems to be having severe colic at present and has all the symptoms of this condition. The formula he is on may be complicating the problem and you may need to go back to regular NAN. Try a simple colic remedy first. If no benefit occurs speak to your paediatrician about your baby's excessive colic.
