As I mentioned in my previous answer, nephritis usually is an ''alergic reaction'' to bacteria such as strep. However there can be other causes such as reactions to viruses other reactions involving the immune system of the body. They suspect one of the immune causes so they are looking for markers of this kind of reaction in her blood tests.
Even in the usual cases of nephritis due to strep infections there will be changes in the complement levels in the blood.
