I need your help please doctor

Morning doctor

Hope you had a great weekend.

I would like to know a few things:

My son is 18 months today and I need to take him for his 18 month vaccination. Do they tend to get sick from this injection and why? What “ side effects”  can I expect and how long after the injection? The nurse at the paed’ s rooms said I must buy Infanrix Hexa and Avaxim80.

My son is teething –  busy with cuspids. Is it possible to get a runny nose while teething with these teeth? I got DriNasal from the chemist and it seemed to dry up his nose.

I would also like to know from what age does the little one’ s understand what you are telling them. My husband goes away on business once a month for 3 days. Does my son understand when we tell him Daddy is going away to work, but he will return in a few days?

Thank you for you time and response –  I really do appreciate your advice.

Your son will be having the '6 in 1 injection which he has had before. He may develop a slight fever for a day or two after this injection but most children show no adverse effects at all.The other vaccination is for Hepatitis A and this injection seldom causes any symptoms.
You son may have a slightly runny nose with teething but do not use the Drinase drops which contains oxymetazoline which may cause excessive drying of the nasal mucous membrane if used for prolonged periods in children. Salex is safe and effective.
Your son is still too young to understand about his Dad going away.He will be able understand more when he is about 3 years old.
