I just dont know anymore

Hi Doc

My little one has on Losec. Going well. I wrote in a while back to say she also had a bladder infection...was treated. My Paed did refer me to take her for a sonar. All her organs, kidneys, bladder, etc are normal so scan went well. My BIGGEST problem is that she just has SUCH a small appetite...she is 17 weeks now, weighs 5,490 and is 62 cm long. Although she does pick up weight, her weight gain is VERY VERY slow...have told Paed my fears, he says she does not feed a lot due to the reflux. I just dont know anymore, am so tired of worrying she does not drink enough. If i get her to drink 500 ml in a whole day, thats a lot for her. I know its not enough though. Must I just accept now that she just is petite and has a very small appetite and just allow her to feed when she wants to??? Im tired of forcing her when she does not want too...she cries if i fuss with her but drinks happily when SHE wants too...She has Novalac...and Im trying Lactogen now too. I read on tin this week that Lactogen is for " Hungry babies" . Am I not agitating the problem but giving her a formula that is too filling now??? Otherwise, she is a happy, alert baby full of energy.....Im just a mommy tired of worrying about her feeding habits!!!

Your baby's weight is indeed well below the average for her age. Her weight is on the 10th percentile line of the infant growth chart. This means she is in the lowest 10% for weight for her age group. She appears to be happy but her reflux is interfering with her appetite and growth. She should be on an anti-reflux medicine as well as the Losec. Losec just reduces stomach acid but does not stop the actual reflux. Please speak to your paediatrian about this. I am pleased that her urinary stystem is entirely normal.
