How to get 2yr old of the breast

Hi all, we have a 2 yr old girl who is still on the breast. We want to get her off it. What can we do to try up the milk - is there something at the chemist one can get?

The reason why we are doing this is that our LO won''t sleep through/on her own. In the middle of the night she will cry to drink. Yes, i know my wife have spoil her by doing that but that is a debate for another day. Our aim is to get her to sleep through the night without waking up. Because she is still on the braest she does not eat well when she is with us

Boni, a couple of people have responded on the breastfeeding forum if you want to go and look there.

Weaning won''t help with sleeping through the night though - babies wake for many causes, breastfeeding at night just helps them get back to sleep faster. IF you wean, you will have one less method of getting baby back to sleep.

Gogo, i agree..not an african culture and its mean!! i read the post hoping to also get an answer to the same question. although my boy is only 14months. i need to wean him as he does not sleep through on his own and breastfeed the entire night.

Gogo, what an unkind way to wean. AFter investing so much time in a wonderful, nurturing, kind relationship with a child, why undo all that?

That is not culture, that is a practice that some people, who might or might not be African (some people who do that are African and others aren''t). Its got nothing to do with culture.
