Q.

How many bananas is safe?

My 21 month old son is obsessed with bananas, he really really loves them and would eat them all the time if he could. I am restricting him to a maximum of 2 bananas a day and he has some every day unless we have none in the house. He doesn't suffer from constipation or runny tummy, but I am worried that it may not be good for him to eat so many bananas. Do you have any info on this for me?

Thank you!

The only possible risk of a banana "overdose" is that bananas have a very high potassium content. Restriction to one or two bananas a day sounds sufficient at this age. I am not aware of anyone who has ever become ill from regularly eating too many bananas, but our online dietician may also be able to assist.
