Q.

HIV tests

Dear Doc
Will a newborn baby whos HIV test shows up negative at birth be likely to be negative at the next 6 week (is it) HIV test? Not sure if the parents are HIV + or -

This test is usually accurate and if negative at birth is unlikely to show up positive at 6 weeks. This is provided the baby's mother has followed all the instructions given to HIV+ mothers regarding feeding their infants.
