high glucose levels in 10yr old son

my son is 10yrs old. he is on ritalin la 20mg twice a day and 1,25ml of risperdal for odd. i was asked to check his glucose levels every two weeks because he had fastings of 6. i checked him a couple of times after a meal.(about 2 hours after). he has had levels of 8- 18.9. the docter recommended a oggt. this showed a fasting of 5.9, 1hr 5,9. 2hr 4,8 and 3hr was 3,2. this is good news, but what about the high levels that i keep picking up. is it save to have these high levels? wont it cause problems with his health? he had no glucose in his urine.

Your son does appear to have raised blood glucose levels at times but diabetes has been excluded. It seems that his blood glucose levels result from his diet. While his body can obviously deal with his glucose levels,it would be a good idea to have him on a low glycaemic diet. This may well help with the management of his ADD as well.It would be a good idea to discuss his diet with a dietician.
