Hemorrhoids - 8 year old

We noticed yesterday that my 8 year old son has got hemorrhoids. When he pushes, they " pop out"  the anus and it looks terrible. He is not constipated and has a bowel movement at least once to twice a day. Internet research indicates that this is not common in children and normally only if they have been constipated. Some articles suggest that there could possibly be a serious underlying cause i.e. liver problems, hypertension. He has been complaining of a little pain in his abdomen and pain in his back when sleeping at night. Does this require further investigation and by which type of specialist? Thank you.

This is probably not due to haemorrhoids but may be a condition called rectal prolapse. Your son should be seen by a paediatric surgeon.
