Q.

Heartbeat

I have noticed that my nearly 3 year olds heartbeat does some strange things. I have listened to this for over 30 min. when she's asleep and have noticed that when she takes a deep breath in it changes - quickens and then slow down quite a lot - or maybe it slows more and then just returns to normal - its more the slowness and not the fastness that is more prevalent - it kind of shifts gear - it sometimes happens when she does not take a 'big' breath, but just on normal breathing. She is the most active child and extremely healthy. Should I take her for further evaluation?

Paediatrician

This could be entirely normal, but could also be associated with severe nasal obstruction or some heart rhythm problem (which I doubt) Just to be on the safe side have her checked by your paediatrician.
