Dear dr
My daughter is 10 years old –  overall healthy –  at age 4 years I picked up n very irregular heartbeat I took her to the paediatrician he immediately asked for a EKG –  same day spoke about the possibility of a pase maker but first suggested more test and then referred us to a paediatric cardiologist that did a heart sonar and said the heart seems fine no irregularity’ s in the sonar and told us not to worry. –  besides being diagnosed with Narcolepsy she is otherwise very healthy –  she is currently using 45 mg Concerta and 25mg Tofrinol to treat the symptoms very successfully. Yesterday we were playing with a stetascope and I had a good listen to her chest –  She still has a very irregular heartbeat. (She sometimes suffer from hotflushes) She has been tested for autoimmune a few years ago and lucky nothing showed positive. What worries me is she is a very active sports child and has SA colours in sport. Should we be bothered if the paediatric cardiologist said the irregular heartbeat was OK.

I am not happy with this story. It is now 6 years since your daughter was last seen by the cardiologist. It was very clever of you to pick up the fact that your daughter still has an irregular heartbeat. As far as I am aware,Tofranil should not be prescribed for children with an arrhythmia. Also Concerta may be associated with causing arrythmias. So there is a problem here.Your daughter should be seen again by a paediatric cardiologist and besides deciding about your daughter's irregular heartbeat you also need to know if it is safe for her to be on these medicines.
