hayfever in 4 mnth old

My paediatrician has diagnosed my baby with hayfever. He sneezes a lot and has a slightly blocked nose, sometimes a runny one. He prescribed betnesol drps for his nose as well as Adco-Ketotifen syrup. Both seem to be working, but today I noticed his eyes are red and a bit watery too. Clearly the allergy. Is there anything else I can give him for this. It seems to be itchy and irritable and it' s making him a bit grumpy.

It is very unusual indeed for a baby this young to start developing true hayfever. If it does occur it is usually due to a food allergy. Babies may also become allergic to cats, if you have a cat at home this is a possible cause. It is no use treating your baby's allergies without knowing what is causing his problem. He needs to have allergy tests known as RASTs done to common foods such as milk, egg, peanut, soya and wheat and also to cats. He should not be treated on Betnesol which is a powerful cortisone medication and the cortisone is readily absorbed into your baby's body from the nasal mucous membtrane. The Ketotifen will make him irritable as well as his blocked nose.
