Growth Deficiency in Child

Hi could you please answer this important question for me. A 10 year old boys height is significantly below the normal height of a child his age. Less than 1% of children his age are a similar height to him. What height would this boy be? And what could be the possible reasons for this? Thank you.

The average height for a 10 year old boy is 137cm. The height of a 10 year old boy who is in the lowest 1 or 2% is 126cm.There are many reasons for this happening including a genetic or family height pattern, poor nutrition, chronic illnesses, kidney disease, growth hormone failure, other hormonal causes and long term use of some medicines such as cortisone. There are other causes as well. It would be best if this young boy was seen by an endocrine specialist, a paediatric endocrinologist.
