Q.

Gross motor development

Hi Doc

My boy is almost 11m old. He does not crawl, pull himself up or stand fully assisted for more than a second. He only sat well at 8.5m. Social, emotional development fine. He will try hard to get to a toy and goes on all fours, but does not crawl. We spend most of our time (if not sleeping time) playing on the carpet. When would you consider looking at gross motor development? Does he still fall into the 'average' range. He was born at 39w. Weighs 9.5kgs and is 74cm tall.

Regards

Your son's height and weight are exactly on the average for his age so he is doing well. He seems to be developing reasonably well even though he took a bit longer than average before he could sit unassisted. Many children skip crawling altogether, so don't be concerned by this. He is starting to pull himself up already which is good and should be walking within the next 2 to 3 months.
