Q.

Gromet not falling out

Dear Doc,
Some advise please? My daughter had her tonsils, adenoids removed as well as gromets inserted at 2,5 years. She is now almost 5. One fell out mid-last year. The other still gives her trouble every now and then. She gets earache about 2 - 3 times a month, where I have to put her ENT eardrops to take the pain away. There are also times where it doesn't bother her for months. Sometimes the other ear with no gromet also aches. When I look into her ear I can sometimes see it clearly and other times cant (looks like it shifts every now and then) She is not sick at all at the moment??? Must I go back to the ENT to give her a thourogh check-up? I have asked a normal GP and he told me to just leave it alone, but what about the aches and pains? I though a gromet falls out when you don't need it?

Ps: Before inserting gromets, my child never suffered ANY ear infections.........I wonder if it was even neccessary??

Please advise,

Thanks,
Pat

It is best to take her back to the ENT surgeon who inserted the grommets originally. They may be the special long term grommets which stay in for very long periods.
