glycerine on baby''s dummy

is it safe to use glycerine on my baby''s dummy? can it harm baby in any way? he is 4 months old

Glycerine has been used for many years on the dummies of babies. Glycerine is a sweetening agent and as such may be bad for teeth in infants. While your baby has not got teeth yet in 2 months or so he will have, so it is probably best not to get him used to the sweet taste of glycerine on his dummy.

According to wikipedia, It does not feed the bacteria that form plaques and cause dental cavities.

I have suggested using glycerine on my new grandsons dummy...he is 14 weeks old....and I feel it would assist soothing him when he is distressed ...occasionally... I used it with both my children over 30 years ago and both do not have cravings for sweet things nor do they have rotten or bad teeth, quite the opposite. I agree with Heather about teaching dental hygiene and also teaching them to brush from an early age

We used glycerine on my granddaughters dummy to settle her, she is 6 now and dentist says she's has beautiful teeth, I guess it's all about dental hygiene and teaching them to brush very early
