Q.

Gaviscon for milk allergy

Hi, my sister in law gives her four month old baby Gaviscon because he has reflux caused by milk allergy. Her GP prescribed this treatment. Is this treatment correct? Shouldn’t she just try a different baby milk?

Of course you are correct. If your baby nephew has a milk allergy he must come off a milk formula and use a soya based formula such as Infasoy. If he is highly allergic to cow's milk he will not benefit from being on NAN-HA because the milk protein is not sufficiently modified.

My daughter is 4 months old and on Infacare anti reflux and has gaviscon in her bottle and with no side effects. It just helps stop the burn when baby brings up milk.

i have discovered my baby is lactose intolerant and she suffers from reflux so i have changed to S26 LF (lactose free) (like water the milk consistency) so i have to add Nestargel to her formula with gavsicon. The nestargel thickends the formula so it is like anti reflux.

Really great. You can change her formula to anything suitable and just add the nestargel to make it thick.

Thanks for all your advice. Can you tell me what the consequence will be if she keeps on giving him the Gaviscon? She doesn’t take advice that well.

The Infacare Anti Reflux formula is also very good for reflux. But if its a milk allergy then changing to Soya would be better.

Yes that is just stupid! as changing to Soya or Goat's milk will be so much easier and healthier for the child. I can not believe you sister in-law trust this idiot with her child, she should find another doctor, because he is clearly clueless! what if it was something worse...
