Foreskin of 3yr old

Hi Doc,

The foreskin of my 3yr old son does not move back on his penis. Is this normal at his age or should the skin be able to move back now without hurting him? I know when they are younger one is not supposed to force the skin back but I am not sure as to how long does it stay like that. I don''t want him to develop any infections etc &  thus confused whether to force the skin back &  wash or not. Will it happen in it''s own time?

Your guidance as usual is appreciated.

Thank you!

You should not be concerned. This is entirely normal. Do not try to push the foreskin back. He will not develop any infection. Just wash his penis gently with a soft soapy washcloth when he is in the bath.

If you are so worried about his foreskin and getting infections why did you not have him circumcised. Circumcision prevents a lot of childhood trauma, pain and issues with his penis. You never have to " mess"  with him penis at all if circumcised. You will find that when you first pull back his foreskin, his glans and inner foreskin will be very white. That is smegma, something that not only smells very foul, but has been linked to cervical cancer and cancer of the penis in uncircumcised men. Circumcision prevents these issues. As a mother, you want the best for your son, as a lover, you want the best for your vagina and your own sex life. Circumcision is best for your son and his future wife''s sex lives. Do him the biggest favor and have him circumcised now. You will not regret it and neither will he.
