Q.

First teeth

There is lots written on teething (BEFORE it cuts) but my question is... once the first tooth has cut through and can just be seen how long does it take for the tooth to grow to it's full size and should the pain have subsided by the time it's cut through? Also, how long after the first tooth does the next tooth come? My daughter has a runny nose - is this a symptom (I thought this would be before the tooth cut)? She is unusually irritable day and night so what are the symptoms once it's out?

Thank You.

There are no hard and fast rules regarding teething. Children may be miserable in the weeks before a tooth erupts, but once it is visible these symptoms should disappear. Children never develop a high fever or become ill from teething. Normally two teeth will erupt in close succession. Once a tooth has erupted it may take 2-3months before the tooth is fully grown.
