Q.

First foods headache!

My little girl is now 4 months and I am starting her on solids, however, she refuses rice/maize porridge. I know they say you should start with it, but what now? I started giving her apple purity and she loves it, but since she started the purity she poos 4 times a day were she only use to poo once in the morning. Is this a sign that she might have a problem with it? The poo is not runny or a funny colour. I haven't given her any other flavour again and her tummy is "stable" today (she had her last purity yesterday morning and we started Monday night). I would also like to know if it is necassary for me to start giving her Multivits and if so, which one will be correct for her age? Many thanx!!

The apple purity is fine and the increase in stool frequency when she eats lots of fruit is expected. You may slowly expand the variety in her diet. A child that drinks fortified baby formula or breast milk together with the slow introduction of a balanced diet does not require additional vitamin supplements.

If baby is spitting out her food it means that her tongue thrust reflex has not yet dissapeared and she is too young for solids. The tongue thrust reflex is a defence mechanism to stop anything other than liquids being swallowed by your baby. It usually disappears around 6 months of age.

Thanx for your advice. I will try it.

How is it going with your boy otherwise? It is rather sweet to me how we all moved from the gynae forum to this one, I remember that there was a couple of regular "girls" all within the same time frame, I was to shy to chat, but now you need the "friends" I suppose.

Hi,

My boy is almost 5 months now and he loves his purity.
You can try the honey and oats purity in the mornings and I also find that if I put honey or appel Purity on his "rice-pap" he eats it. In fact he loves it. Try one purity for 3-4days and see what her tummy is like. It is normal for her to poo more, her tummy has to get use to the new foods. Try to give her sweetpatato or butternutt purity with a little butter in. My boy loves it.
I don't know about the vitamines, but I don't give anything extra, he drinks his formular and eats purity.

Good luck
