Q.

Fever and Mosquito bites

Daughter 2 yrs old had fever of 38 last night, very fussy and difficult just not herself and has several severe mossie bites all over her body that have become quite red and enlarged. (Just completed a 7 day course of augmentim for upper respiritory infection.) She has not been to a malaria area (resides in Pretoria) - what are the chances of this being malaria and should I get a blood test done...?

Mosquito's are common this time of the year. If she has not been in a malaria endemic area I would not be too concerned about malaria, but if the fever persists she will have to be re-evaluated.
