Feeding problems

Hi Dr

I need some advice please, I have a 14month old daughter, she is on Isomil due to eczema, my concern is that she just does not want to eat food, she is surviving on 125ml fruit purity, 100grms yoghurt and 2 x 240ml Isomil per day, I am also still breastfeeding her occasionally during the day, but I am now taking metaformin. How will this affect her??? I am at my wits end trying to convince her to eat. Her weight is 9.8kgs, please advise me what to do as I am desperate.

Your daughter's weight is only slightly below the average for her age which is surprising seeing that she eats so poorly. Breastfeeding is contra indicated in mother's taking metformin as not enough is known about possible adverse effects on the baby.It is difficult to advise you about your baby's diet as she is eating so little and shows no inclination to want to eat anything else. There are no tonics which will improve her appetite.Perhaps one of our regular forum members will have some good advice for you.

I know what you are going through. I' ve got a 17 month old girl and she' s also on Isomil. She lives on 2 x Danino yogurts and if I' m lucky 2 x 220ml bottles. And maybe a slice of bread. She' s also refusing to eat and it' s not teething anymore. I' ve given up - I think she doesn' t like to eat. As soon as she have food in her mouth she' ll spit it out or throw it on the floor. She' s going to creche on the 1st of October, so I am hoping that will help her to eat if she sees other children are eating. And hopefully she' ll sleep through then - she still wakes up between 2 - 3 times a night. Hang in there - it' s tiring I know. And I' m 6 months pregnant.
