Extremely busy 5 mnth old

Dear Doc / Other moms

Do you think it's possible for a 5 mth old to show signs of hyperactivity? He is extremely busy and when awake, refuses to lie on his back (starts crying and kicking) He wants to sit or stand up, look what's around him and touch and chew everything he can reach. It's as if his mind wants to do things his body can't yet. He's very inquisitive, which I'm happy about, but things don't amuse him for very long, then you must move him to the next thing. He sleeps minimally during the day and it's usually a mission to get him to sleep. His legs are kicking and moving most of the time, and he recently started banging his hands and rattles against everything. If it's all normal and I'm overreacting, I'll be thankful and drink a tonic to keep up, but I just want to make sure he's ok?? Oh, and he weighs a bit more than you're average 5 month old. All of this said, he is a very happy, friendly baby, so maybe it's normal?

He sounds like he is a pretty normal and highly inquisitive baby who is quite an attention seaker and certainly not a good sleeper. He may in fact be demonstrating some features of sleep deprivation. How you are going to get him to change his sleep habits now is another problem. Many of our regular forum members have good advice in this regard.

very normal - my five month is nick named --worm , because she is just on the move she is crawling flat on her belly. she rolls from back to front and from front to back like a pro. she can sit by her self for at least 5 min, then she decides she wants to grab something and she falls over. and she loves bouncing- thats for strong leg development so it is good.
tell me does your one say da da or ma yet. she even plays clap handies and if you scream she screams back at you. and boy can i tell you in church when the choir sings she screams with. so i guess your boy is just perfect a happy busy bee.
