Hello Doctor

My son has eczema. I wanted to find out if it is going to affect him all his life? Is there an ointment other than the one he is using which is elocon mixed with PMA?

First you need to make a proper diagnosis here. So your child needs to be seen and treated by a paediatrician with an interest in paediatric allergic condtions. There are experts in all the main centres in SA.I do not like using strong cortisone creams unless there is a sound reason for their use.

My daugter is 4 years now and suffer from eczema from 4 months. I use a lot of things. Cortizone is not the best for eczema. I had her Dr Hardy de beer and he precribed Creme Classique ointment mixed with persivate. And this is really working for her at the moment. I also bath her in Creme Classique ointment. It is avalilble at Dischem

I think it depends on the kind of eczema LO has. my daughter had eczema when she was a baby and the dockter said that she will grow out of it. she sort of has. its not as bad as it was when she was a baby but when ever she would run and get hot she wil get a few (looks like small pimples) on her chicks and upper arm. her skin is also very dry. but other than that she is fine. but i do know of ppl that struggle with his 4year old that gets it very bad and he also had it from birth.
good luck its not nice to see them like that.
