Ecoli Infection for kids

Hi there,

Please advise, my son is 11days old and has been diagnosed with E coli bacteria and the other one in his urine. What is the severity of this infection and what are the possible treatments for this?!
Currently he''s admitted to a PVT hospital under treatment but still unsure as to whether he''ll be fine or not!!!

Oh, there is also Nitrite in his urine. Thanks in advance for your help

E coli is a common bacterial cause of urinary system infection in newborn infants. The Nitrites in his urine is just an indication that infection is present. The real question is why a newborn baby boy has an infection such as this.Your baby's urinary sytem must be carefully investigated to make sure that this is normal as it is very possible that he has some abnormality of his urinary system.

Thanks for the reply Dr. I will in fact ask this question to the Paediatrician involved.

It''s just that it is hurting to see my baby lying in the incubator helplessly.

Is this ailment life threatening?!
