Q.

Ears and Tonsils

My child is 16 mths old and I have noticed recently that when I am lying with her at night that she takes my hand and puts it over her ears. As soon as I try and take my hand away, she puts it back. She is having her tonsils removed tomorrow, could this "ear thing" be associated with the tonsils?

Yes- certainly. She probably has a problem called glue ear where there is persistent mucus behind the ear drums. She may need grommets at the same time that her tonsils are removed. Ask the surgeon to check her ears.
