Morning Doc!

I have questions regarding ears for both my kids:
Firstly my 3 year old has had grommets for one year now. Recently it starting " leaking" . There are often gooey stuff that comes out, yellow, brownish in colour. Is this a good or bad thing. My husband suffers from excessive ear wax, can this be related?

Secondly, my mother in law keeps on telling me not to let my 1 year old sleep flat while drinking is bottle, as the milk can go to the ears and infect them. He is now on cows milk. Is this true? And till when is it a probelem?

Regarding your 3 year old's ear discharge;this may mean that he has an ear infection. This is not due to wax.Your son should be seen by a doctor, preferably the ENT specialist who inserted the grommets in your son's ears.
It is true that a baby should not lie flat when drinking his bottle as it is not good for his ears. The milk may enter the eustachian tubes from the ears and cause an ear infection.
