ear piercing only after a year

why should one not have a baby' s ears pierced before she is one year old? is it dangerous?

i have heard of so many people doing this and when keeping it clean have no problems at all.

what are the risks?

Why would you want to do this to such a young baby? There are many possible dangers caused by ear piercing especially hepatitis and other infections. If it is done be sure that a 'single use' piercing needle is used and not one that needs repeated strerilisation.

I had the twins pierced at 3 months, because I wanted them done young. I agree, the younger the better, they cant fiddle and it heals faster. Also so our friends and family would know who is who, LOL. The one had rings and the other studs.

thanks for the replies.

i thought about doing exactly for the reason that Benki mentioned - they can' t pull it out of fiddle with it. and i am worried that when she is older she might be too scared already.

I pierced mine when she was 3 months even though they said it is better to pierce her atleast when she turns 4 months so it depends on phamacies some do it at 4 and some at 6 months, the reason was that : the gun makes nose so it can damage child' s ear drum but where i pierced mine they were not using a gun that makes noise. I prefer to do it while she is still young because she can' t touch her ear and it heals fast. At 1year she can pull it out when she feels a pain
