Dummy Trouble

My daughter will be 4 years old in 3 weeks time and I can' t get rid of that dummy! She doesnt take it to creche and only wants it when she is home! She also doesnt take it when we go visiting or anywhere, only to bed and at home! I am getting alot of slack from my mother telling me I am not a good mother and messing up my child' s teeth, but if she doesn' t have her dummy she doesn' t sleep! Should I be worried! I have tried all the advice to get rid of it and it goes good for 2 days or so and then she screams for it again! What should I do?

Your daughter is a bit old to still be using her dummy, but seems to find a lot of comfort from it when she goes to sleep. She does not go out sucking a dummy nor when you are visisting so no one is aware that she still uses a dummy at night. It is probably time to try her off her dummy. Perhaps using a star chart with a reward system is the way to go here. Give her a star for each night that she does not use the dummy and after 5 nights in a row she gets a small reward.Praise her a lot as well after every night that she does not use the dummy.Keep on with this until she has given up wanting her dummy.
