Dummy sucking

Hi Doc

My boy is 15mnths and is still sucking dummy. With the last visit to the clinic the sister strongly advised us to wean him from the dummy.
We triy not to give him the dummy during the day but what a mission. It doesnt look like he' ll kick the habit anytime soon as his so attached to it.

My question:
1. Could the dummy sucking at his age hinder dental development and the shaping of his mouth and gums
2 At what age could dummy sucking pose as a serious problem.
3. What else can I do wean him off from it.

Many thanks

This is very common. Dummy sucking is unlikely to affect his teeth. The best trick is to cut a very small piece off the dummy teat each day until there is less and less for your son to suck on.He will soon decide that he has had enough of trying to suck this dummy.
