Q.

down syndrome

My friend is diabetic & recenly gave birth to a baby girl(bout a month ago).Doctors now suspect that the baby is down syndrome.Could they not detect this while she was pregnant?

It can often be difficult to diagnose Downs syndrome infants during pregnancy using ultrasound only. If other tests such as an amniocentesis is added then the diagnosis is usually made during pregnancy.

But with her diabetic should they not perform all the neccessary tests to check for everything
