Q.

Down syndrome

Hi there, my son was diagnosed with ds after birth and is now 3 years of age, he is basically doing fine ie heart, thyroid etc, but I would like to know is can I change over to cows milk as I still give him Nido 3 as I know that they loose vitamins out their body quite quickly but I also give him a vitamin suppliment that they have formulated in the USA called Nutrivene - D which has been specially formulated for people with ds, do you think I can change over or do you think that he needs the vitamins. He is not an exeptionally good eater, very fussy and has only in the last year tollerated non pureed food. He is also still drinking from a bottle how can I get him off it, he simply refuses to drink milk from anything else. He will drink alittle other fluids from a cup we only put a few drops in at a time as he will spill it if we put more in.

Am I his worst problem, do you think i baby him to much, sometimes I do not Know if someof the things he can and cannot do are because of me not showing him or persisting or if it is because of DS

Your concerns for your son are perfectly normal given your special circumstances. Your son can definitely now start on ordinary full cream milk. There is nothing to prevent you giving him the added vitamins you are using. What about trying him on one of the special feeder cups with a lid?
