Q.

Disorientation and Balance problems

Hi

For the past 2 weeks my son of 18 months are having problems with his balance. It is clear that he becomes disorientated and then falls heavily to such an extend that his head has several bruises. At a point I thought he might have concussion as he started vomiting after a hard bump. After a vist to our local paediatrician his middle ears seems fine (no moisture or infection) and we got a referral to do an MRI.

Any suggestions or further help will be appreciated.

If the MRI is already planned then I will first await those results. The most common problem would be a viral infection of the balance centre or inner ear (which is very difficult to detect), but it is important to exclude other possible causes.

An MRI is mandatory.
